A finished bus needs somewhere to go. If you fill a bus while its exit is blocked, you’ve jammed the terminal.

• Clear the exit lane early, before you start filling buses.
• Send out buses that are ready to leave immediately.
• Don’t dispatch a bus you can’t empty this turn — a half-full bus stuck in the lane wastes it.

Work backwards from the jam

When a passenger queue is blocked, don’t stare at the queue — look at what’s in front of it. Find the bus in the way, move that first, and the rest of the board usually opens up.
